Front Desk Supervisor

Provides leadership and supervision to the Front Desk.  Assists with functional supervisory support to Bell Desk and Fitness Center staff as directed by the Front Desk Manager. 

Main Duties:

  • Lead the registration and checkout process on a daily basis with an emphasis on creating a sense of welcome for guests while upholding Resort standards at all times.
  • Train Front Desk staff emphasizing guest relations skills.
  • Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures, departmental policies and liaison with other managers as appropriate.
  • Supervise the appropriate selection of rooms, based on guest needs, code keys, and instructions as per the Front Desk Manager.
  • Ensure quality group experience through effective coordination with group/wholesale specialist.
  • Assist the Front Desk Manager in all areas to ensure that the department operates smoothly, efficiently and adheres to company policies.
  • Perform accurate cash handling in accordance with policy. This includes handling of traveler’s checks, credit cards, and foreign currency plus conversions.
  • Develop strong knowledge of Girdwood Valley and Resort activities.
  • Ensure Resort job standards are being met and special programs are implemented.
  • Develop clear understanding of Front Operations, including: Night Audit, Bell Desk, Guest Services, Recreation, and Reservations; and assist in these areas as needed.
  • Act as a Front Desk Agent when short staffed, during times of reduced labor demands, and as directed by the Front Operations management team.
  • Maintain knowledge and ability to train staff to Department OSHA regulations; Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Emergency Action Plans (EAP), Injury and Illness Prevention Program.
  • Other Duties as Assigned.

Skills/Requirements: 

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must have proven ability to: follow-through, be detail oriented, be able to work varied hours (including evenings and night shifts) with regular attendance, have a high level of patience, tact, diplomacy, and the ability to collect information in order to resolve conflict, train, motivate, coach, counsel and discipline staff on resort written policies and procedures.

  • Two year associate degree or higher.  Previous supervisory and/or hospitality experience required.  Previous hospitality management experience preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.  Knowledge of non-English languages helpful.  Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including speaking effectively to large groups.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Opera. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
  • Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Work weekends & holidays on a flexible schedule. 
  • Must have a valid AK driver’s license and produce a copy of clean driving record. 
  • Must be at least 21 years of age. 
  • Work with minimal supervision.
