We are looking for a first Cook

We are looking for an experienced first cook to join our fast-paced kitchen team at Just Jacks in Fort St John, B.C.. We offer excellent benefits, competitive wages and opportunities for advancement. 

The Role

As a first cook, you will be an important member of a team that creates an atmosphere of supporting guest expectations, each and every shift. You will be responsible for preparing and serving food for Just Jacks according to menu specifications, and controlling food waste in your section. You will report into the Kitchen Manager.

The job duties are as follows:

  • Prepare, plan and cook complete meals, such as sauces, soups, salads, vegetables and meat, poultry and fish dishes, and ensure meal presentation is to the highest quality
  • Supervise cleaning standards and food
  • Demonstrate cooking techniques and general cooking skills
  • Ensuring that the kitchen operates in a timely way that meets our quality standards
  • Resourcefully solve any issues that arise and seize control of any problematic situation
  • Comply with and enforce sanitation regulations and safety standards
  • Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers

Successful candidates must have the following credentials:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a first cook
  • Post-secondary education in the field is not required but is an asset
  • Be able to communicate in English
  • Flexible hours between day & night shifts
  • Have an inner sense of urgency
  • Have a willingness to learn
  • Proper use of kitchen tools and equipment and lockout procedures
  • Knife skills and common cuts
  • Basic understanding of culinary terminology
  • Be able to work with pre-set spreadsheets
  • Ability and willingness to complete Food Safe Level I
