The Role:

As a Barista in our busy Market Café, you are expected to exceed guest expectations and maximize food & beverage revenue each and every shift.  You will achieve excellence by providing exceptional, memorable service.  You have amazing organizational skills, are detail-oriented, and you thrive under pressure. 

 Job duties:

Reporting to the Outlet manager, the primary responsibilities are:

• Accurate completion of billing and opening and closing of the café.
• Processing payments via POS systems and maintaining an accurate cash drawer.
• Prepare food and beverages to standard recipes or customized for customers, including recipe changes such as temperature, quantity of ingredients or substituted ingredients depending on the individual needs of the customer.
• You are detail-oriented, customer-focused, and have a strong drive to succeed.
• Provides the highest quality beverages, service and food consistently for all customers by adhering to all recipe and presentation standards.
• Maintaining a calm demeanor during periods of high volume, keeping the cafe operating to standards and setting a positive example for the team.
• Café servers maybe be expected to assist in other areas of our food & beverage operation and retail.
• Cleaning and maintenance of coffee machines, grinders daily, as well as sanitizing seating areas.
• Restocking customer service stations with paper products or beverage preparation items, retail section, supplies including cups, lids, milk, syrups, coffee beans and sandwiches.

Employment Experience and Educational Requirements:

• Minimum of one year of serving experience in a café or coffee shop.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Have a valid ProServe certification.
• Must have a passion for coffee.
• Independent and self-motivated.
• Have a strong ability to multi-task and organize, produce accurate work.
• Previous customer service experience is preferred.

Physical Demands:

• Required to stand for extended periods throughout the shift
• Frequent walking and movement in a fast-paced café environment
• Repetitive hand, wrist, and finger movements (grinding, tamping, steaming, pouring, stirring, operating POS systems)
• Regular bending, crouching, and kneeling to retrieve items from under-counter storage, coolers, and shelves
• Exposure to heat, steam, and hot surfaces/equipment (espresso machines, steam wands, and convection oven)
• Ability to push and pull carts, garbage bins, coffee supplies and cleaning supplies up to 25 lbs.
• Verbal communication requiring clear speaking and active listening for extended periods in a fast-paced, guest-facing environment.
• Flexibility to work varied shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays based on business levels.
