The Role:

The Laundry Supervisor supports the daily operations of the hotel’s laundry department by overseeing laundry staff, maintaining workflow, and ensuring all linens are cleaned, processed, and delivered to department standards. This role focuses on hands-on supervision, quality control, training, and maintaining a safe and efficient working environment.

Job Duties:

Operational Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily laundry activities, including washing, drying, ironing, folding, and distribution of linens.
  • Inspect and monitor linen quality and report damage or shortages to the Laundry Manager or Executive Housekeeper.
  • Assist with bimonthly linen inventories and maintain accurate records.
  • Ensure the laundry area remains clean, organized, and in compliance with safety standards.
  • Ensure proper use of chemicals, detergents, and machinery based on established formulas and procedures.
  • Maintain daily production flow to meet hotel operational needs.
  • Assist with guest laundry processing as required.
  • Ensure timely delivery of linens to guest room floors, Food & Beverage outlets, and Recreation/SPA, coordinating closely with Housekeeping and other departments to meet operational timings.
  • Support implementation of energy-saving and sustainability initiatives (e.g., water usage, chemical efficiency, recycling of damaged linens).
  • Assist in updating and optimizing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laundry processes, ensuring consistency and compliance.

Staff Support and Supervision

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and motivate laundry team members.
  • Provide direction to laundry team members during shifts.
  • Provide real-time coaching on productivity, safety, and quality standards, ensuring corrective action is handled constructively.
  • Assist with training new staff on equipment operation, fabric care, and hygiene practices.
  • Monitor staff performance and report concerns or improvement needs to the Laundry Manager.
  • Support daily shift scheduling and task assignments.
  • Conduct brief shift meetings to communicate priorities and ensure team alignment.

Equipment and Maintenance

  • Operate all laundry equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor equipment performance and report malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly.
  • Support preventive maintenance by following daily cleaning and care routines.

Inventory and Supplies

  • Assist in monitoring inventory levels of chemicals, detergents, and linens.
  • Report shortages or supply needs to the Laundry Manager.
  • Help track linen usage and report abnormalities or excessive damage.
  • Monitor productivity metrics (load capacity, cycle times, pieces per hour) and support improvements to meet departmental targets.

Health, Safety and Hygiene

  • Enforce safe work practices and ensure compliance with hotel safety and hygiene standards.
  • Train staff in chemical handling, emergency procedures, and equipment safety.
  • Maintain proper documentation for audits and inspections.
  • Promote a clean, organized, and hazard free work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial health & safety regulations (OHS standards) and internal policies, documenting any incidents or near misses.
  • Support regular safety drills or refresher sessions on chemical handling and machine lock-out/tag-out procedures.

Employment Experience and Educational Requirements:

  • 2–3 years of experience in hotel laundry operations an asset
  • Previous supervisory or lead role preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of laundry processes, equipment operation, and fabric care.
  • Good communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to train others and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office and/or operational software).
  • Understanding of linen lifecycle management and cost control.
  • Ability to lift, push, or move heavy laundry loads and work in a warm, fast-paced environment.
