The Role:

Reporting directly to the General Manager and working closely with Corporate Finance and Executive Leadership, the Controller serves as the strategic financial leader for the property. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of hotel financial operations, accounting, budgeting, forecasting, business analysis, cash management, internal controls, and risk management.

The Controller partners with operational leaders across the organization to identify opportunities, improve efficiencies, maximize profitability, and ensure the financial health of the property. This individual provides financial insight and leadership to support business decisions, drive revenue growth, and establish best practices that enhance operational performance.

The ideal candidate is an experienced hospitality finance professional with exceptional leadership, analytical, and communication skills.

Job Duties:

Financial Leadership & Strategy

  • Serve as the senior financial leader for the property and a key member of the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Develop and implement financial strategies that support the resort's short-term and long-term business objectives.
  • Provide financial guidance and recommendations to the General Manager and Executive Team.
  • Identify business opportunities, operational efficiencies, and revenue enhancement initiatives through detailed financial analysis.
  • Establish and continuously improve financial policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Drive a culture of accountability, profitability, and financial awareness throughout the organization.

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and long-range financial planning initiatives.
  • Oversee monthly forecasting and financial performance reviews.
  • Analyze revenue, expenses, labor costs, departmental productivity, and key performance indicators.
  • Develop actionable recommendations to improve profitability and operational effectiveness.

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Oversee all accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, income audit, payroll, general ledger, balance sheet reconciliation, liquidity management, cash flow management, group billing oversight and collections.
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Review and approve financial statements, journal entries, reconciliations, and account analyses.
  • Complete financial modeling as needed to support business decisions.
  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of all financial records and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policies.

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and mitigate financial risk.
  • Oversee all audit processes including annual external audits and internal reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations, licensing requirements, and government reporting obligations.
  • Monitor financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, financial procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Business Partnership & Operational Support

  • Partner with department leaders to establish financial goals and performance targets which include restaurants, catering, sales, housekeeping, front office, transportation, guest activities, pool, club lounge, engineering.
  • Assist operational teams in identifying opportunities to improve revenue generation, cost management, and guest satisfaction.
  • Provide ongoing financial coaching and support to department managers.
  • Analyze labor efficiency, pricing strategies, market trends, and business performance.
  • Support revenue management initiatives through financial analysis and forecasting.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, develop, and inspire the Accounting team.
  • Recruit, train, and retain high-performing finance professionals.
  • Conduct performance reviews and create development plans for team members.
  • Foster collaboration between Finance and all operating departments.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and professional growth.

Employment Experience and Educational Requirements:

  • Professional Accounting Designation is preferred but not required for the role.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in hospitality, resort, hotel, or related service industries preferred.
  • Proven experience leading budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and strategic analysis.
  • Experience managing audits, internal controls, compliance, and regulatory reporting.
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel and financial reporting systems.
  • Experience with hospitality systems including Opera, Micros, POS systems, and ERP platforms preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence operational leaders and drive business performance through financial insights.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
