The Role:

The Laundry Maintenance Technician will oversee the daily operation, maintenance, and performance of all laundry equipment and systems within a high-end hotel environment. Responsible for ensuring maximum efficiency, safety, and reliability of commercial laundry operations while maintaining the highest standards of quality and guest service. Manage preventive maintenance programs, troubleshoot and repair equipment, coordinate with vendors and contractors, and lead maintenance staff to support seamless hotel operations. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and brand standards while optimizing operational performance and minimizing downtime.

Job Duties:

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair commercial laundry production equipment and supporting systems in accordance with operational standards, manufacturer specifications, and hotel procedures.
  • Respond promptly to equipment malfunctions, utility disruptions, and operational issues to ensure uninterrupted laundry production and service delivery.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on washers, dryers, finishing equipment, pumps, motors, bearings, belts, rollers, valves, sensors, and associated control systems.
  • Monitor equipment performance, identify recurring issues or abnormal wear, and escalate major repair or capital requirements proactively.
  • Support shutdown planning, scheduled maintenance activities, spare parts management, and contractor coordination in partnership with the Laundry Manager.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Engineer and Engineering team on issues related to utilities, boilers, hot water systems, compressed air, exhaust, drainage, controls, and power distribution.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment with strong attention to housekeeping, lint control, and operational safety standards.
  • Participate in root-cause analysis following equipment failures and recommend solutions that enhance operational reliability, efficiency, and team confidence.

Employment Experience and Educational Requirements:

  • Previous experience in commercial laundry, hospitality, hotel operations, manufacturing, food processing, or other production environments with rotating equipment and utility-dependent systems preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to safely dismantle, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and reassemble commercial laundry and production equipment.
  • Working knowledge of motors, drives, bearings, chains, belts, rollers, pneumatic systems, limit switches, pumps, and basic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, parts diagrams, lockout/tagout procedures, and preventative maintenance instructions.
  • Skilled in performing diagnostics related to temperature, pressure, airflow, drainage, vibration, unusual noise, alignment, and equipment wear patterns.
  • Experience with steam, hydronic, gas-fired, or electrically heated process equipment is considered an asset.
  • Competence using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), work orders, preventative maintenance schedules, inspection logs, and inventory/parts tracking processes.

Physical Demands:

  • Regular standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and climbing in both confined and open mechanical areas.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of tools, equipment parts, and components, typically up to 25–50 lbs; occasional heavier lifts with assistance or mechanical aids.
  • Manual dexterity required for precision work involving tools, machinery components, and small mechanical/electrical parts.
  • Extended periods working in mechanical rooms and laundry production areas with exposure to heat, humidity, steam, noise, and vibration.
  • Ability to work in environments with moving machinery and rotating equipment while adhering strictly to safety protocols and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Occasional work at heights or on ladders to access equipment, ducting, or overhead systems.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals, lubricants, steam systems, and maintenance-related substances while following all WHMIS and safety procedures.
