Job Description

As the People & Culture Manager, you will play a pivotal role in aligning and enhancing people practices at the Westin Calgary Airport. Your primary focus will be on attracting, training, and retaining exceptional talent to uphold high standards of service excellence and operational efficiency. You will work closely with the leadership teams to develop and implement strategic initiatives that promote a positive work environment, support employee growth, and foster a strong sense of community and belonging.

Key Focuses

Recruitment and Staffing

  • Supports the recruitment process from job posting through to new hire onboarding and orientation.
  • Assists with screening resumes, coordinating interviews, and facilitating hiring and onboarding activities in collaboration with managers.
  • Maintains accurate reporting metrics to understand staffing trends.
  • Develops and updates job descriptions and task lists as needed.  
  • Maintains Organization Charts as engineered by the Corporate team.

Employee Relations and Engagement

  • Serves as a point of contact for employee inquiries and concerns.
  • Facilitates conflict resolution and maintains a positive work environment.
  • Implements employee engagement programs and initiatives.

Performance Management

  • Supports the Performance Feedback process and ensures managers complete timely and effective feedback conversations.
  • Provides support to managers in conducting performance reviews and managing employee performance.

Training and Development

  • Owns the employee onboarding experience.
  • Identifies training needs and organizes training programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge.
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of training initiatives.  

Benefits and Compensation

  • Assists with the employee benefits program & Health Insurance open enrollment and answers employee queries regarding benefits.

HR Compliance

  • Ensures all HR practices comply with provincial and federal regulations. When in doubt, partners with Corporate People & Culture.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of HR laws and regulations.
  • Manages and maintains employee records and documentation.

Health & Safety

  • Supports the development and enforces health and safety policies in compliance with local regulations.
  • Conducts regular safety audits and organizes health and safety training for employees.

Administration

  • Responsible for coordinating and executing all administrative tasks related to People and Culture operations.
  • Handles end-to-end People and Culture administration, documentation, and process coordination.

Experience/Passions/Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or an equivalent of 2 years of proven experience)
  • Proven experience in HR or people operations roles, preferably within the hospitality industry
  • Strong understanding of HR functions and best practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization.

Working Conditions

This position may work long days and/or weekends to meet periodic upturns in business demands or meet deadlines. This includes a combination of office-based work, meetings with team members and leadership.  Works closely with the General Manager. This is a fast-paced working environment with high levels of interaction with employees and other stakeholders. The People & Culture Manager will spend time multitasking competing priorities, effectively supporting employees, solving problems and fostering a culture of service excellence.
