The Opportunity

We are looking to hire a Senior Vice President of Resort to our team. As Senior Vice President, you will be instrumental in propelling our organization toward continued growth and success. Through meticulous planning, timely execution, and informed decision-making, you will play a crucial part in steering our company toward financial resiliency and operational excellence.

As Senior Vice President, success is defined by securing sustainable security for all stakeholders through an unwavering focus on detailed planning, timely execution, decision making based on careful assessment of needs, setting priorities, and allocating limited resources. This position is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational excellence, financial resiliency, key partnerships and community relations for the division. You will achieve excellence by building highly engaged and effective senior leadership teams that are focused on upholding the highest standards in guest experiences and employee retention while delivering against key financial goals and performance metrics.

This role Reports to the Chief Operating Officer/Corporate Executive Committee.

Key Focuses

  • Strategic Leadership: Plays a crucial role in setting the overall strategic direction of the division. Collaborates with C-Suite executive team to develop and implement long-term goals, initiatives, and business strategies that align with the overall company's mission and vision.
  • Succession Planning: Vigorous in the continuous strengthening of the divisional leadership group by positioning the division within the industry as a preferred employer, through diligent performance management processes, and associated development plans for all leaders. Understands that succession planning for the division is an essential deliverable and for which position is ultimately accountable.
  • Business Development: Responsible for identifying and pursuing growth opportunities, such as new markets, partnerships, acquisitions, or product/service offerings. Analyses market trends, competitive landscape, and customer preferences to drive business expansion.
  • Growth Capital Allocation: Collaborates with Asset Management in allocating capital into areas that will boost overall revenues and/or enhance the guest experience. Accountable for delivering agreed divisional returns on investment.
  • Portfolio Management: Accountable through their people, and in collaboration with Corporate Services, for seamless portfolio transitions via new openings, acquisitions, dispositions and renovations. Fully accountable from scope, underwriting, design, value engineering and coordination with construction.
  • Industry Engagement: Focus on the long term by engaging with associations, brands, brokers, investors, and industry partners to bolster Pomeroy Lodging's presence with an eye toward building a development network and ultimately a pipeline of potential resort transactions.
  • Operating Efficiency: Accountable for the operating performance of all Resorts, as measured against agreed KPIs associated with employee engagement, customer feedback, revenue generation and operational flow through to EBITDA.
  • Financial Oversight: Collaborates with finance and operations with respect to financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning. Ensures that financial goals are met and that the division maintains a strong financial position.
  • Performance Metrics: Establishes key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of various initiatives and departments. Monitors these metrics and makes data-driven decisions to continuously improve divisional performance. KPIs to include (but not limited to) market share, employee engagement, guest intent to recommend, EBITDA and return on investment.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engages with stakeholders, including lenders, investors, clients, and employees. Effective communication and relationship-building skills are crucial to maintain positive relationships with these groups. Represents and presents to all external stakeholders: is the face and voice of the division and organization in the communities in which they operate.
  • Innovation: Drives innovation within the division by identifying new technologies, processes, products and ideas that lead to improved guest experiences, work flows, operating efficiencies, timely reporting and overall competitiveness.
  • Risk Management: Assesses and manages potential risks and challenges that could impact the divisions' success. Develops strategies to mitigate risks and ensure business continuity.
  • Connects meaningfully with their people; understands that their people are their customers, and does not fail to keep promises.
  • Assigned deliverables are executed in a manner that requires little or no follow-up, both in terms of timeliness, scope and quality.
  • Personal communication, interactions and behaviours support all five of the organization's core values.

Experience/Passions/Education

  • Extensive industry experience of at least 15 years with a proven track record of hospitality leadership, strategic planning, and winning.
  • Ability to think strategically, make informed decisions, and envision the organization's future trajectory.
  • Bachelor's degree at a minimum; master's degree preferred.
  • Solid understanding of financial principles and the ability to analyse financial data is important.
  • Excellent communication skills required to effectively convey the division's vision, goals, and strategies to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Adept at identifying challenges, formulating solutions, and making sound decisions, often under pressure.

This role requires face-to-face interactions with our Resort teams in Kananaskis, Alberta, and Girdwood Alaska. This role can be remote within western Canada but comes with a high degree of travel within western Canada and the United States.
