Rental Cashier/Clerk

THIS JOB IS LOCATED IN GIRDWOOD, ALASKA. 

Main Duties:

  • Greet guests in a professional manner;
  • Assist guests for selecting correct sized boots and skis according to height/weight and skiing ability. Calculate binding tensions and pole length.
  • Present rental agreements, answer questions (if there are any), and ensure proper completion of required documents.
  • Properly handle equipment when returned, including checking for damage.
  • Counts cash and prepares cash for bank deposits.
  • Operating point of sale system, making change, reconciling cash/credit at close of shift
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills/Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior sales experience helpful and accurate cash handling experience including operating a cash register. 
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Effectively present information, one-on-one or in a small group situation to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Capabilities to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Working knowledge of ski and/or snow board equipment and accessories.
  • Good verbal/written communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have good customer service skills.  Must be able to assist guests of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Duties require to stand and walk for extended periods of time with some grasping, stooping, bending, squatting, twisting and reaching.

Physical demands and work environment:  The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Physical demands: The ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, stoop, walk push or pull heavy equipment and stand for extended periods of time in varying temperatures and weather.  Physical ability to shovel and keep tram venue in order.  Physically able to navigate to tram stations on skis or snowboard, sometimes with a backpack or other tools. Employee may be required to pass a functional capacity test developed for this job.

 

  • Work Environment: the noise in this work environment is usually moderate.  Physical terrain in the work environment can be uneven with poor traction; there is ice and snow outside, and wet floors indoors.
