Vehicle Maintenance Tech II and Tech III

THIS JOB IS LOCATED IN GIRDWOOD, ALASKA. 

Performs PMI, troubleshooting and failure analysis on all Alyeska Resort vehicles, snow cats, heavy equipment, ATVs, and snowmobiles.  Repairs and maintains the fleet of Alyeska Resort vehicles and equipment in accordance with the Resort’s vehicle maintenance guidelines and standards.  Provide Alyeska Resort with maximum safe vehicle availability

Main Duties:

  • Performs PMI and resulting repairs
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, repair, design, modify and complete failure analysis on fleet vehicles and equipment
  • Repairs and maintains the fleet of Alyeska Resort vehicles and equipment in accordance with the Resort’s vehicle maintenance guidelines and standards
  • Assist in training resort staff in the safe operation of equipment and equipment operation protocols
  • Assists Tech III on maintenance and repair projects
  • Ensures work orders are completed in a timely manner and accurately recorded on all work performed
  • Management of specific assigned shop areas
  • Attends weekly staff and safety meetings
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the shop area in order to provide a safe work environment
  • Will abide by Alyeska Resort handbook and concerning all staff and guest interaction
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills/Requirements:

  • High school education or equivalent
  • Must possess a valid Alaska Driver’s License
  • CDL/Medical Examiners Certification
  • Two to Five years of experience in the Vehicle Maintenance field and a certificate of completion from an automotive / diesel Technology School with a minimum of 1000 clock hours
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulics, electrical, electrical over hydraulics, gas & diesel engine systems, computerized engine control systems, drive train, chassis, body repair, basic welding, fuel systems, air systems and schematic drawings
  • Ability to consult manuals, trade publications, vendors, staff schools and training programs to keep updated on current shop practices and new maintenance technologies to improve the efficiency and production of the Vehicle Maintenance Department
  • Ability to operate all vehicles in the fleet to evaluate performance of equipment and repairs
  • Ability to run the shop in the absence of the Supervisor or Foreman
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions

  • Physical demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.  The employee must be able to operate hand and foot controls on vehicles.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Employee may be required to pass a functional capacity test developed for this job.

Work Environment:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock.  The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.  Physical terrain in the work environment can be uneven with poor traction; there is ice and snow outside, and wet floors indoors.
