We are looking for a Director of Construction to join our organization. This leadership role features a competitive salary and benefits package and is based out of our office in Calgary. 

As the Director of Construction, you are responsible for the coordination and completion of the construction, renovation, and maintenance of Company assets. In this role, you will be accountable for managing construction bids, preparing contracts, and building, buying, or selling assets. Additionally, you will manage all construction plans while communicating effectively with all necessary parties. While the coordination, completion, and maintenance of Company assets are primary focus areas, the Director of Construction is also responsible for staff development and general department administration. Key Focuses                                      

  • Provides direct reports with the resources, direction, coaching, and feedback required for their continuous development.
  • Planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating construction projects from conception to completion according to schedule, specifications, and budget
  • Planning and preparing construction schedules, deliverables, and milestones, and monitoring progress against established schedules
  • Completes detailed plan review and ensures plans meet code, brand standards, and budget requirements.
  • Prepares and reports on various project reports such as budget and timeline, construction progress, proforma of costs and returns, and the construction draw process.
  • Obtains all necessary permits and reviews and approves any change orders.
  • Ensures proper application for and safeguards licenses, contracts, and insurance applicable to construction projects.
  • Investigates damage, accidents, or delays at construction sites to ensure proper procedures are being carried out.
  • Manages the employment relationship with all site staff and oversees construction litigation when required.
  • Implements, manages, and takes responsibility for all safety standards and WCB compliance.

Experiences/Passions/Education 

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Director/Senior Manager in construction/Real Estate development
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in managing large real estate development projects north of $25MM
  • Advanced Procore & Microsoft Office skills.
  • Comfortable with technology and open to new learning.

Working Conditions

Due to 365-day-a-year operations, this position may be exposed to long shifts that, at times, include late hours, weekends, and holidays. This position is set in a fast-paced environment, with high levels of interaction with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders. This position will require traveling to different construction sites and working directly in the field to manage project activities. Depending on the location and time of year, extreme weather conditions such as very hot days or very cold days will be experienced. The Director of Construction is required to walk long distances and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
