We are looking for a Director of People & Culture to join our world-class mountain resort

Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge is a 400+ room Autograph Collection by Marriott, located 60 minutes west of Calgary International Airport. As the Director of People & Culture, you have a crucial seat on the Executive Committee, providing Human Resource leadership and strategic direction in support of the Resort's overall strategic goals. Most importantly, you will champion Pomeroy Lodging Core Values and operationalize them, supporting a work environment that is collaborative and driven in keeping its promises. Skills/Abilities Include:

  • Creates and implements total compensation packages, particularly recognition and incentive programs focused on supporting recruitment goals and driving retention.
  • Oversees the recruitment and selection strategy for the resort, ensuring all pipelines are active. Working in collaboration with Corporate P&C to maximize recruitment efforts.                                                                                  
  • Identifies training gaps and participates in learning & development work groups. Collaborating with Corporate People & Culture to develop and deliver resort-wide training programs.                                                                     
  • Ensures resort people practices are consistent with legal requirements and our organizational values to treat employees in a fair and consistent manner and manage the risk of litigation and conflict.                                             
  • Coaches and supports leaders at all levels in the resort and ensures leaders have the right tools and knowledge to handle employee concerns. Proactively managing conflict, not allowing issues to build up or cause roadblocks.   
  • Works in tandem with the Corporate Payroll team to ensure proper payroll, benefits and established practices are employed throughout the resort.                                                                     
  • Works with the resort leadership team to build effective internal communication channels that resonate with all employees.                                                                                                           
  • Monitors labour budgets of all departments within the resort and works with leaders to address and correct inefficiencies. 
  • Manages the employee residence experience. Ensuring the health, safety and comfort of employees that reside in our care.     
  • Leads health, safety, and wellness policies & procedures for the resort to ensure compliance through training, monitoring, and providing appropriate safeguards and disability management.                                                       
  • Is visible and accessible throughout the operation, building working relationships that create a collaborative work environment and is perceived by others to be a trusted partner in problem-solving.                                             
  • Connects meaningfully with their people; understands that their people are their customers, and does not fail to keep promises. 
  • Assigned deliverables are executed in a manner that requires little or no follow-up, both in terms of timeliness, scope and quality.  
  • Personal communication, interactions and behaviours support all five of the organization's core values.    

Education & Experience required to be successful

  • Bachelor’s degree or designation in Human Resources, Business Administration or other related fields.                                                                                                                     
  • Five years or more experience in managing a Human Resources department; two years of experience in a Director level position.                                               
  • Passion for leadership and communication.                                      
  • Thorough knowledge of Human Resources practices and procedures. Knowledge of Provincial, Federal l laws and regulations pertaining to Human Resources. 
  • Broad knowledge and experience in employment law, compensation, organizational planning, organization development, employee relations, safety, training and development.                                                                                                    

Working Conditions
Due to the 365-day, a year operation of the Resort, the Director of People & Culture may be exposed to long shifts that at times include late hours, weekends, and holidays. This position is set in a fast-paced environment with high levels of interaction with employees and other stakeholders. The Director of People & Culture will spend a lot of time on their feet, multitasking competing priorities, effectively leading employees, solving problems and leading a culture of service excellence.
